CuraçaoAfter a very warm welcome we are back where it all started: Amsterdam. It is great to be home again but for now, lets look back one more time to all the places where we have been.

Once back in Bangkok we are busy organising. We have to get a ticket from Mongolia to Hungary and from Hungary back home and – very important – we still have to plan our entire trip to China. We count the days, because in less than a week we will meet Zsuzsa’s father who will travel with us through

We fly back to Kuala Lumpur and sleep in a hotel close to the airport. The very next morning at 6:00 we continue to Cambodia. We set our alarm and arrange a transfer but we find our preparations in vain when we miss our shuttle. How is that possible? Days later we find out that the battery in our clock is dead. Lucky for us, we find another transfer to the airport and manage to get on our flight in time.

Arriving in Kuala Lumpur we find ourselves in a different world immediately. It is a big city, an obvious observation after the small island of Koh Samui. But, it is also clean and well organised. Immediately we acquire a taste and are looking forward to seeing the rest of Malaysia.

After our visit to Hong Kong we fly to Bangkok, in Thailand. A typical backpacker destination, but ofcourse also beautiful beaches, a lot of rice and many, many temples. Ofcourse, we had already written about our tiger story so we won’t repeat that.
Read on >>>The world is such a beautiful place. So much has become clear from all the places we have visited in the last few months. Unfortunately, there are also less beautiful things. In Thailand we were confronted with the abuse of elephants, crocodiles and tigers. We managed to get some videos of the mistreated tigers and compiled it into a video. Watch it, share it and – more importantly – take this into account if you ever go to Thailand yourself.

Yes with all these great photos and videos you would almost believe that our trip consists of fun things only. Well, that is true, but only for the most part and today we are tasked with our least favorite chores of all: budgeting.

Ofcourse, we had already been to Cancun on our way to Cuba, but now it was time to actually visit Mexico in it’s own respect. In 10 days we went through Mexico and Guatemala to find the old Maya cities. At the end of it, we were ready for a beach again. And WHAT a beach it was!

Hello my friend. Happy holiday! Do you want a taxi? Cuban cigar? American car? In the center of Havana we are greeted friendly every time. Joost is even worse off, because he doesn’t heven have boots and his walking shoes are all covered in mud.

A 6 hour bus trip takes us from Arica in Northern Chile to La Nuestro Señora de La Paz in Bolivia. It also means that we travel from sealevel to 3600 meters high in just a couple of hours. The hightsickness hits us immediately. Before we arrive we have a headache and we feel miserable. We’re lucky though. Several people on the bus make good use of the distributed puke bags.

Our last destination in Patagonia was Puerto Natales, in southern Chile. For us this was only a transit destination because from here we could take a cheap flight to the north. Also, we had no idea what to expect here and then we ran into Alejandro.

Is was time for a relaxing day. That means: ice-trek. We would still climb and carry loads but in comparison with Fitz Roy is was as easy as can be. So, a sort of relaxation but then with an incredible view.

The long trip along route 40 eventually brought us to el Chaltén. This village was built in 1985 by Argentina to claim the land before Chile would, but most people have long forgotten that. El Chaltén is also synonymous with the second reason for it’s existence: Fitz Roy, and that was the real reason we went here.

The asphalt deforms under the pressure of our feet and the tiles of the pavement are so hot that the rising heath makes you feel like you are walking through a bath of hot air. The sun strikes merciless down on the human mass that flows through the streets like a liquid. They don’t seem to mind. They are used to it. We are not.
